The idea of contrast and balance is the inspiration behind line San & Soni, designed by husband and wife team, Sonali and Jeet. From shapes, textures and cultural concepts, the New York based brand melds all aspects into a cohesive vision.

Born and raised in India, the pair met in New York while studying fashion design at F.I.T. After several stints designing and consulting for various brands such as Coach and Liz Claiborne, the two decided to strike out on their own in 2009 with the notion of “simplicity, pure, sophisticated elegance, chic and practical luxury” as their design principle.

Owing much of their inspiration to a mixing of Eastern and Western cultures the duo strive to make clothes that speak to the modern woman who even in “casualness, has a touch of sophistication.” Bringing an Indian background plentiful in heritage and art to their design process, the clothes are rich with the ornamentation and artistry that India is known for but made modern with their skillful play with silhouettes, draping and shapes. Working as a team, each brings a strikingly unique perspective to their designs.

The eponymous line offers beautifully crafted dresses, tops, and skirts as well as impeccably tailored menswear inspired suit jackets and pants. Each striking piece has a sense of ease and understated refinement. Meticulously chosen fabrics and trims, embroidery and embellishment coupled with simple yet sophisticated silhouettes have become a design signature. Sumptuous fabrics such as silks are contrasted with harsher fabrics such as wool to create a collection that is both, “soft” and “hard,” feminine and masculine.

San & Soni have been featured in Women’s Wear Daily, IN STYLE, Audrey, NY Post and Elle.com among others. San & Soni is currently selling in specialty stores all over US and majors like Anthropologie.
